Franklin, Tennessee, was the scene of a troubling incident on Thursday evening involving retired NFL quarterback Jay Cutler. The former professional athlete was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after police responded to reports of a minor traffic collision on the 200 block of Bridge Street around 5p.m.
According to the police report, the incident began when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle. Eyewitness accounts described him as exhibiting concerning behavior; officers noted that he was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes when they arrived on the scene. In a surprising turn of events, Cutler reportedly attempted to evade responsibility by offering the other driver $2,000 to avoid calling the police. This action raised red flags and prompted further investigation by law enforcement.
Upon their investigation officers discovered two firearms in Cutler’s vehicle, including a loaded pistol. This alarming detail added to the seriousness of the charges he faced. Cutler was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) for the first offense, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, violation of implied consent, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Cutler refused to participate in field sobriety tests administered by the officers. As per protocol, he was taken to a local hospital, where a blood sample was obtained through a warrant to determine his blood alcohol content. Following the necessary procedures, Cutler was booked into the Williams County jail. He spent a short time in custody before being released later that evening on a $5,000 bond.
This incident adds to Cutler’s recent media presence, which has been largely dominated by his personal life, particularly his divorce from reality TV star Kristin Cavallari. The couple announced their split in 2020 after a decade together, during which they welcomed three children: Camden Jack, Jaxon Wyatt, and Saylor James. Since then, Cutler has transitioned into a new chapter of his life, even hosting a podcast that discusses various topics, including his experience in the NFL and beyond.
Cutler’s professional football career began in earnest when he was selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft, going 11th overall to the Denver Broncos. He quickly established himself as a promising quarterback, playing three seasons with the Broncos before being traded to the Chicago Bears in 2009. During his eight seasons with the Bears, Cutler made a significant impact, becoming the franchise’s all-time leading passer, amassing 23,443 yards and throwing 154 touchdown passes.
Throughout his 12-year career, which also included a stint with the Miami Dolphins, Cutler accumulated impressive statistics, including 35,133 passing yards and 227 touchdowns. He ultimately retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of both commendable achievements and controversies.
As news of Cutler’s arrest continues to unfold, it raises questions about the challenges he faces as a public figure navigating life after the NFL. Fans and former teammates alike will be watching closely to see how this incident may affect his reputation and future endeavors. While the road ahead may be rocky, Cutler’s journey is far from over, and it remains to be seen how he will respond to this latest chapter in his life.
